Hello from the creative trenches. It has been a minute since I have had the inspiration and fortitude to sit down and say hello. Part of that stems from launching two children into the ether of post High School graduation..empty nest syndrome is a thing! And part of that is not being motivated to do much more than practice yoga, and move through my transition from a full time mom to having more time on my hands than I know what to do with…so all that being said, hello – again. What have I been up to, you might ask.
I have been busy lately crocheting the heck out of some hats. Most of these will be donated at the end of the year, but a few will be sold to replenish my yarn stock as I deplete it rapidly with hat after hat. The whole donating hat thing came about through the inspiration from a friend who challenged me to make 25 goals for 2024, another friend who asked me to pick my crochet hook back up for a custom hat for someone, and from listening to my local radio station while they were doing a coat drive during the Christmas holidays. Who knew you could donate HATS for a COAT drive?! Well, I do now so look out donation boxes at the end of this year.
I am also working on finishing up a Memory Quilt for me, for a change. My mother passed away in 2017 and I’ve been holding on to her colorful Hawaiian shirts since. Last year I finally came up with what I wanted to do to honor her colorful spirit and was able to put together a gorgeous – if I do say so myself – flamingo quilt. With the help of a great friend who also happens to own a REALLY big long arm machine, I now have a king-sized quilt with a giant flamingo made from my Mom’s shirts. I will spend the next week or so working to finish the binding by hand for a little extra love. That quilt will then live in our guest room to be used by those who grace our home with their presence.
But that’s not all! Last year I also had the opportunity to begin teaching yoga (yes, I’m a yoga instructor – yet another creative outlet) to a great group of swimmers here in our little burg. As a result of that I made a bunch of yoga straps (50-ish) from upcycled denim to use in my yoga instruction. I also acquired some yoga bolsters that I re-covered to add to my collection of yoga essentials for practicing and teaching. So my love of sewing and creating supports my love for yoga – how convenient.
All in all, it’s been a very productive “down-time.” So thanks for being patient with me while I figure my self out and finally get back to work designing, creating and making new and interesting things.

Shannon has a true gift for creating unique and beautiful pieces of art! I have two shoulder bags and one darling cap. One of the bags was a gift to a Texas Tech grandmother. That bag has been to almost every volleyball game for several years. Well loved and admired by many!
